How It Works
A colour changing LED is made up of three separate LEDs in a single packaging, with a small scale controller operating them. Any of these hues can show up at a particular time simply by passing a current through one LED. Passing a current through two LEDs one after another produces the relevant combined colour. It's also possible to have different levels of current passing through the various LEDs, creating shades in between the six main colours. Passing current through every one of the three LEDs at once creates a white light. Colour changing LEDs can be used for simply ornamental effect.
